Rep. Frey Votes Against Middle Class Fee Increase

Hartford  State Representative John H. Frey (R-111th) today lauded Governor Rell’s decision to veto $60 million in DMV fee increases passed by Legislative Democrats yesterday.  Rep. Frey voted against the measure when brought before the House of Representatives.

“The fee increases that were proposed would have fallen hardest on middle class families in Ridgefield,” said Rep. Frey.  “Nobody can avoid registering their car or renewing their drivers license because these are essential to conducting every day business, yet these are exactly the things that would have cost Connecticut residents more had the revenue bill been allowed to become law.  At a time when Ridgefielders have seen their household incomes shrink or worse, lost their jobs, it is simply unconscionable that anyone would consider raising an unavoidable cost of everyday life.”

The revenue budget implementation bill raised nearly every fee schedule at the DMV, and came on top of over $1 billion in tax and fee increases already passed by the Legislative Majority and which Rep. Frey opposed.  Governor Rell has announced that she would veto the legislation.
